Why Kazokukon?

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

Creating a convention is a serious commitment. Why did you decide to make a new one?

Kazokukon was a dream long before it was a name. Having been involved in running conventions, I was able to accurately assess the costs and challenges. I decided it would be worth the effort to bring a convention back to Toledo after all these years. I am excited to share my new vision with you!

“A convention has many moving parts. But the goal of all of them should be the promotion of fandom and community.”

Conventions should be three things: Fun. Engaging and transformative.

Fun.

A convention should be fun. Panels should cater to diverse interests. Opportunities to meet up with friends and make new friends. Concerts, panels, cosplay photo meetups, interactive games, dances, and other events will make Kazokukon a weekend full of fun!

Engaging.

Kazokukon hopes to engage people. The challenge of making a new costume, preparing a new panel, finding that rare figure in the vendors' hall. It's about engaging with people.

Transformative.

Kazokukon hopes to transform the community. The chair hopes to encourage people to try new things, especially relating to the performing arts. It was at convention karaoke where I first started to confront (and ultimately defeat) my own social anxiety. Everyone is different, and there is no one way to change, but it is my hope that Kazokukon gives you various opportunities to engage with the community in exciting ways, to challenge you in some small way to be the best version of yourself you can be. This has been the driving force behind my Anime Idol and Karaoke programs, and I hope that Kazokukon can be a fun, welcoming, engaging and transformative experience for all who attend!
